Both Box and Dropbox are leaders in cloud storage services. They hold a place of honor among other vendors and are highly ranked. They are valued by customers for their enterprise-focused business plans, but when the question arises of which of these two vendors is better, it becomes difficult to answer right away. That’s why in this article we’re going to do an evaluation review of Box vs Dropbox on the main criteria to see which space is still better.
A brief description of each product
Below we will describe the purpose of each vendor and their general characteristics.
- Dropbox for Business
This is one of the largest DMS vendors that has all the standard features for storing and sharing information. Share relevant information with other members of your team from any location and device, and use collaboration tools. Space is available for virtually every OS except Mac and gives you the ability to connect more than 300,000 third-party applications for editing, communication, and processing.
- Box
Unlike its competitor, Box focuses more on the security of the space. Administrators can set passwords on their links or deadlines for document access. They can also monitor activity and view the frequency of document viewing or changes/editing of any document. The space is supported on desktop and mobile devices and synchronizes instantly with content on the desktop.
Pricing Policy
Spaces are implemented as follows:
- DropBox
The provider offers a free one-month test version of the standard plan, there is no such option for the Enterprise plan. There are three plans to choose from, with prices starting at $15 per month and ending at $25 per month, but there is an option to subscribe to any of these plans for an annual subscription and then the price will be much lower.
- Box
Sign up for Box online and get a two-week trial space. This applies to almost all plans except the corporate version. You have 6 plans to choose from, including the free version with 10 GB of storage. The others will cost you anywhere from $7 a month to $47 a month, depending on your company and requirements. There is also an option for an annual subscription.
Security and administrative controls
In this part of the Box – DropBox comparison we will describe the main features of both providers and their security features:
- DropBox
DropBox offers data encryption, setting permissions on user groups, and setting file-sharing permissions. With it, you can remotely erase data if it’s in danger, this prevents data leaks. In addition, Dropbox has several layers of security, including secure data transfer, network configuration, and an application-level management tool. Administrators can also control members in their business group, delete and add new members themselves. But there is a downside to the security of the space – it does not offer a storage policy
- Box
Box has done a much better job on its security features. It offers both data encryption, configurable storage rules, and even enterprise mobility management. Administrators can manage file sharing both inside and outside the space. This greatly reduces the risk of data leakage through centralized management and full visibility into resource management. Data encryption occurs both at rest and during data exchange and provides encryption keys that administrators can manage. Additionally, the provider stores your data in more than one data center, which is also a great security feature.
